Eco-Tourism

From camping to bird watching, nature trails and cultural boma, rock climbing, star gazing, enjoy a tour of the forest with our able ecotourism group.

Research and Education

Gain from and Contribute to our Forest Library and its reach environment history. The aim to to conserve and preserve Oloolua Forest and share knowledge to everyone in need.

Tree Nurseries

Purchase indigenous tree seedlings from our user group that creates a livelihoods for the community around the forest to promote regeneration and conservation of the forest.

Bee Keeping

Enjoy forest honey harvested from the bees of Oloolua Forest and taste authentic, sweet honey. 

About Oloolua Forest

Oloolua Forest is 681.7Ha and is considered to be the lungs of

Nairobi which boarders Nairobi and Kajiado County.

Our History

Oloolua Forest is a remnant of Kenya’s once extensive dry upland forest ecosystem, located in Ngong, Kajiado County, just southwest of Nairobi. Traditionally associated with the Maasai community, the forest has long served as a source of medicinal plants, grazing areas, and cultural heritage. Oloolua Forest functions as an urban conservation site, supporting biodiversity, environmental education, ecotourism activities, nature trails, caves, waterfalls, and research initiatives that contribute to sustainable forest management in Kenya.

Our Vision

To position Oloolua Forest as a model urban dry upland forest ecosystem—protected, restored, digitally documented, and community-owned—serving as a living laboratory for biodiversity conservation, climate action, research, and environmental education in Kenya.

User Groups

Collection of Forest produce

CFA members collect non-timber forest products, including firewood, medicinal herbs, honey, and grass for livestock.

Seed Collection

Community members are allowed to collect seeds within the forest for propagation and other uses that will benefit them directly as a source of income and sustainability for the forest.

Grazing

CFA member have access to specific areas for grazing livestock that are permitted.

Plantation and Cultivation

Community members are allowed to cultivate crops on degraded forest land while planting trees, with temporary (up to 3 years) tenancy.
